• Dermal filler works to plump the lips, as well as fill wrinkles. It’s long been one of our most popular treatments at Helen Taylor Aesthetics – and it’s completely safe, with the effects being seen immediately and the benefits lasting several months.

From our Rugby-based clinic, we have offered collagen fillers to our happy clients for some years. But collagen isn’t suitable for everyone, since it is non-vegetarian product and has also been known to cause allergies.

The alternative is Biofil – and Helen has spent a considerable amount of time training and gaining qualifications in procedures based on clients’ own blood. One of the most exciting developments in aesthetics in recent years, it is an entirely natural alternative to dermal fillers. Using a plasma-based product extracted from your blood, we can add volume to your face (think fuller lips and cheeks) and reduce your wrinkles.

Plasma gel or Biofil contains your own blood and is reinjected, in a single session, into the targeted areas. Improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, it can also be used to treat larger areas of facial skin.

  • Taking a vial of your own blood and running it through a process of centrifuging and filtering to extract the platelet-rich serum, the process results in the Biofil gel.

This is then injected under your skin, using a cannula to volumise, lift and rejuvenate your face, neck or hands. Producing growth factors and collagen, it comes minus the risk of any allergic reactions, since we’re using your own biological product to perform the procedure.

Containing a cocktail of growth factors which promote healing and stimulate your body to produce its own collagen, the results of treatment are much more durable than they would be with collagen fillers. The reason for this is simple: while an artificial collagen filler diminishes over time, Biofil encourages your own collagen production.

Gradually absorbing back into your body, Biofil’s effects accumulate in such a way that we believe they may become permanent. Since the treatment is still new, we can’t be absolutely sure of this, but research and trials suggest that after three to five procedures, a permanent result can be achieved.

You must be fit and healthy and over the age of 18 to be eligible for this treatment. You must also have realistic expectations regarding the result.

Please note: people who suffer from poor wound healing ability, or who have a tendency to abnormal scar formation, are not suitable for Biofil.

Since the patient’s own blood is used, a normal blood sample must first be taken. No sedation is required, and you will be able to drive and function normally following the treatment. Topical numbing can be used to help the area prior to injecting. Side effects include slight swelling, mild reddening and possible bruising. Work may be resumed immediately after the treatment and make-up can be applied a few hours following the procedure

  • The results should last between nine and 12 months, with a fresher, more youthful-looking appearance expected.
